Getting Started

The following check list will help you determine if NHYM is the appropriate program for your son or daughter.

The following are conditions NHYM treats:

  • Non-psychotic depression
  • Low ego strength
  • Impulsive behavior
  • Lying/manipulative
  • Stealing and/or lack of respect for property of others
  • Lack of personal motivation and healthy boundaries
  • Emotional immaturity
  • More concerned with possessions than with people
  • Social phobias
  • Poor interpersonal skills
  • Distant or strained relationship with family members
  • Low or lack of self-esteem and/or confidence
  • Rebellious behavior toward authority figures
  • Disruptive or out of control behavior in the home, school and/or community
  • Emotional outbursts/inability to channel anger appropriately
  • Truancy/apathetic toward education
  • Underachieving
  • Running Away
  • Drugs and/or alcohol experimentation
  • ODD- Oppositional Defiant Disorder
  • Resistant to treatment
  • Minor delinquencies or legal offenses
  • AD(H)D- Attention Deficit Disorder with or without hyperactivity
  • Negative peer group/easily influenced by friends

The following is a list of conditions that you need to discuss with a NHYM admissions representative or staff counselor for consideration:

  • Major medical problems
  • Long history of serious drug/alcohol abuse
  • History of violent episodes that have required physical or medical restraint
  • Serious criminal charges
  • Sexual Offenders
  • Self mutilation
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Suicide attempts
  • Homicidal thought pattern
  • Pervasive Development Delay
  • Spectrum disorder
  • A psychiatric condition that has not been controlled through use of medication

The following is a list of conditions that NHYM does not take:

  • Pregnancy
  • Murder charges
  • Continual use of weapons from young age
  • Pedophiles
  • Tourette's Syndrome
  • Intelligent Quotients (IQ) below 90
  • Students with a history of fire starting
