Escuela Caribe -Dominican Republic


Teacher - Language Arts:

  • Position entails individual and small group instruction, supervising, role-modeling and relationship development in a Christian boarding school environment.  School population is 30-50 students.  Three to six subject classes are assigned per teacher with approximately 6-12 students per subject.
  • Bachelors degree required from an accredited four year university. Qualified candidates need to be 21 years of age or older and possess a strong desire to work in youth ministry.

Boys Homeroom Teacher:

  • A homeroom teacher records, monitors, and encourages student academic progress.  He/she will participate in case conferences for all students in their homeroom.  A homeroom teacher works as an active team member with house staff and house counselor.  They will teach classes in a group setting and tutor students.  He/she will motivate and encourage underachieving students to perform to their academic potential, grow spiritually, and develop positive life skills.   He/she serves as a resource for all student questions within the classroom, providing answers or directing them to someone who can provide them with an answer.
  • Other duties include supervising students during breaks, in the classroom, in the bathroom, and in the lunchroom as needed; working with all students in an authoritative manner; managing their classroom; and monitoring behavior and evaluating students each period, using the point system. The homeroom teacher communicates daily with house parents of students in the homeroom concerning overall behavior, attitude, and academic achievement.
  • Bachelors degree required from an accredited four year university. Qualified candidates need to be 21 years of age or older and possess a strong desire to work in youth ministry.

Group Leader (male):

  • Position entails providing leadership, informal counseling, supervision, and relationship development as a “big brother" in a Christian boarding school environment.  Position entails a "living in" work situation in a student residence, approximately 10 students per residence, on a full-time basis.  Works with the other members of the house team (housemother, housefather, counselor, and teacher) to support the students and help them to fulfill their responsibilities and resolve conflicts and problems.  The group leader lives alongside the students as a role model of Christ-like living and invites them to follow the same path, working under the authority of the housefather in a supporting role.
  • Academic degree not required but preferred.  Qualified candidates need to be 21 years of age or older and possess a strong desire to work in youth ministry.

Volunteers

  • We accept volunteers throughout the year at all three of our campuses: Indiana, Dominican Republic and Canada.  Volunteer positions are available in a wide range of services.  Applicants may volunteer from one week to one year.  We accept groups and individuals.
  • A passport is required if wanting to volunteer at our Canadian and Dominican locations. Contact Human Resources for the volunteer application.

Chaplain (Volunteer / Short-term):

  • Escuela Caribe is an English-speaking boarding school in the Dominican Republic for high-potential under-achieving American youth. EC is seeking a retired or semi-retired pastor or chaplain who would be interested in assisting with discipleship, preaching, music ministry possibly, spiritual counseling, and other tasks on a short-term basis (3-6 months).
  • EC will provide accommodations, some meals, transportation to and from the airport (Santiago), daily transportation between housing and school, and a small stipend ($200 US / month).


Internships

  • We are able to offer internships during the Fall, Spring and Summer terms at both of our locations: Indiana and the Dominican Republic. During the summer, we offer internships at our camp in Canada.  These are the areas in which we have internships available: Counseling/Social
  • Work/Psychology, Education/Tutors, Youth Ministry and Office Services.
  • A passport is required for our Dominican and Canadian locations.  Please contact our Human Resources department for the internship application.
