Thankful for Loving and Caring People

I am a former student of Escuela Caribe and New Horizons Academy and am very grateful for the time I spent there and for the relationships that I made. Living in the Dominican Republic and attending Escuela Caribe was a great life changing experience for me. Of course I hated it in the beginning, but grew to love the people around me. While at Escuela Caribe I learned about self-control, the value of hard work & discipline, how to build strong relationships, the importance of relationships, how to trust others, treating others with respect, character building, and the value of integrity; my list could go on. I was able to regain control of my conscience that I had lost prior to Escuela Caribe. I am very thankful for the loving and caring people that surrounded me daily.

I am even more thankful for those around me in Escuela Caribe that played a special role in changing my life: Robb & Mary Besosa, my counselor Pam, and Cindy Hundley. I am also very thankful for my parents and family at home that never gave up on me and supported me the whole way through. Many other people made impacts in my life, but it would take me awhile to name them all. I finished high school at New Horizons Academy and left the program in December 1997. Since then I have had a different outlook on life, I am no longer the person I used to be. I married a wonderful man, Scott Murphy, in June of 2000. We just recently purchased our first home and are very excited. I am currently attending the University of Texas in San Antonio pursuing a BBA degree in Accounting. I also work with my husband in the family business, Murphy Tomatoes.

When I was a student I told myself I would never miss the program, but I was wrong. Now that I have been out for a while and look back, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about my time at New Horizons. I may be telling a story about mixing cement or just thinking to myself, but my memories from New Horizons are always with me. Someday I hope to return to Escuela Caribe to share my experiences with others and return the love and discipline that was given to me.
